Job Title: Landscape Foreman

Position Type: Full Time; Seasonal

Reports to: Construction Project Manager

Purpose: The Landscape Foreman is responsible for managing the replication of a Landscape Estimate and/or Landscape Design into a high-quality Landscape Projects. They lead their crews in the installation of patios, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, retaining walls, pathways and walkways, etc. using a variety of top of line, quality materials and offering cutting edge industry knowledge and techniques. Landscape Foreman is also responsible for supervising and managing crew members, assigning work tasks, using tools and equipment, maintaining records and record keeping for projects, monitoring work quality, ensuring crew safety and training employees while participating in all work on site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising, training, and hands-on work required with a 2–3-member team to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency on each project
  • Operation of a variety of landscape construction equipment such as: Skid Loader, Small Track Machine, Partner Saw/Grinder, Compactor, Laser Level, Compact Mini-Excavator
  • Drive truck and haul trailer to work site
  • Installing sod, dirt, plants (Softscape)
  • Installing patios, walls, decks (Hardscape)
  • Cutting and measuring of job materials
  • Maintain a clean and safe worksite at all times
  • Track progress and complete daily logs/tracking as required to ensure timely install of projects
  • Communicate with Landscape Project Manager on job progress and manage project timeline
  • Communicate with Project Manager on required equipment and materials for job
  • Receive calls for crew members attendance and coordinate transportation to work sites when required
  • Attend weekly Foreman meetings
  • Work with management to create procedures and improve efficiencies for Landscape Project installation
  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed; always setting a good example
  • Perform snow clearing in the off-season
  • Continued education to further knowledge and skills

Qualification Requirements:

  • Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record; Class 3F w/ Air a considerable asset
  • Experience hauling a trailer & capable of operating a diverse range of equipment
  • Visual Acuity to accurately cut and measure materials, operate equipment, perform tasks and review work for accuracy, neatness and thoroughness
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position; lift 80 pounds, perform manual labour
  • Able to physically perform basic life operational functions including but not limited to: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to follow company Safety Procedures and recognize Job Hazards and lead others to do the same
  • Motivated individual who is detail orientated with ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Must be available for seasonal long hours (Saturdays may be included); Punctual and dependable
  • Ability to work outdoors in all elements
  • Strong understanding of leadership skills including excellent communication and motivation abilities
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to read and understand landscape blueprints and strong understanding of landscape construction timelines

Education and/ or Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in landscaping field, with a minimum 3 years` experience as a Landscape Foreman or Lead Hand
  • Must be experienced in interlocking stone, various masonry work, concrete work, retaining walls and setting grades, grading soils, planting trees/shrubs, and laying sod
  • Experienced in operating heavy equipment
  • Experienced in operating power tools
  • Experience with documenting productivity and completing required paperwork
  • Experience leading a team through a project to completion
