St. George's Golf and Country Club is a private 18 hole golf club located in Toronto's West End. The Golf Course and Property department is seeking a Full-Time Seasonal Horticulturist to join our team for the 2021 season.

Reporting directly to the Golf Course & Property Manager and the Assistant Superintendents, the Horticulturist is primarily responsible for the planting, growing and maintenance of all flowers, shrubs, small trees and clubhouse lawns on the property. Daily tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and select plant materials for ornamental use on and around the golf course, clubhouse and other buildings
  • Trim and prune hedges and shrubbery
  • Instruct, supervise and ensure safe use of equipment to any employee assigned under your direction
  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides to ornamental plantings as required with approval and supervision of an Assistant Superintendent
  • Apply the necessary irrigation by hand to all plant material as required
  • Ensure the clubhouse grounds are tidy of debris before members and guests arrive to the property, and throughout the day as necessary
  • Maintain and operate all horticultural equipment in a safe and responsible manner

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or extensive knowledge and experience in horticulture
  • Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habit and proper cultivation of a wide selection of annual and perennial flowering bulbs
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and pest control methods and materials
  • Ability to prioritize work schedules to meet the plant's needs and functions held at the club
  • Ability to supervise and train those who are assigned to work with you
  • Ability to follow safe work practices as outlined by the OHSA and club policies
  • The possession of a pesticide license and experience operating golf course equipment are considered an asset and not essential

  • Full-time hours from April to December, 6 days and 44 hours per week
